To ensure the safest and most welcoming environment for our students, families, staff and guests, all District employees are required to have their Saint Paul Public Schools identification badge visible at all times while on any school property. As reported by the superintendent at the BOE meeting of September 22, Saint Paul Public Schools experienced a smooth opening of schools this year. Attached to this update is the final Readiness Report detailing all aspects of school openings for SY 2009 - 10.

Board of Education members are requested to solicit applicants for membership on the Capital Expenditure Advisory Committee (CEAC) for the 2009 - 2010 year. Currently only five appointments have been made to this committee, leaving 16 vacancies. It is critical that applications be received and appointments made quickly as the committee will be beginning its annual work soon. The first CEAC meeting is expected to be scheduled for late October.

At the September 1 Committee of the Board Meeting, administration will present a recommendation for the allocation of capital bond funds. As outlined in the new capital bonding process, the Capital Expenditure Advisory Committee (CEAC) and administration have developed the joint recommendation.

The Back to School Guide was mailed out to all families enrolled in SPPS for 2009-10 on Wednesday, August 12. The guide is published in four languages and includes the Free and Reduced Price Meal Application and postage-paid return envelope. At the July 29 Capital Expenditure Advisory Committee (CEAC) meeting, applications for CEAC were distributed to all existing members present, encouraging them to re-apply for membership on the committee. Applications were also sent to the two absent members.

In an effort to reduce workers’ compensation injuries, the District has implemented post-offer, pre-employment physical testing, effective July 1, 2009, for two job categories (custodial engineers and nutrition services). These two categories have the greatest physical demands and have had historically the highest number of workplace injuries...

The Office of Operations has completed compiling and inputting data into the Council of the Great City Schools’ (CGCS) Managing for Results (Key Performance Indicators) website. When complied by CGCS, member districts will be able to access the information to run queries, create dashboards and compare key performance indicators.

The Breakfast to Go (BTG) program is being piloted at five secondary sites and two elementary sites during summer school. Secondary students build their own breakfast in a bag to take to the classroom...

The deadline for input from building and program administrators on capital bonding projects was June 10. Reminders were sent to administrators to submit their priority ranking lists and additional capital proposals. The ranking list was received from all but seven sites. Additional capital proposals were received from all but 13 sites. The department of Facility Planning will review and cost out each proposal received and then distribute the information to the Capital Expenditure Advisory Committee (CEAC) and the Academics and Operations Committee (AOC) for deliberation.
